Hi,
I just wanted to comment on posts about our new Easy Pay scheme which is available from 1st September.

We have wanted for ages to offer customers the possibility to pay for expensive products in a way which may for some people make things more affordable. The scheme is very simple and means that a product costing £150 or more can be bought in 10 monthly payments if the customer is an RNIB member paying by direct debit.

The scheme will be developed in the light of experience, but to start with we are restricting it to members to help us better control the level of demand because we don't really know how many people will take up the offer and we just don't want anything to break down or go wrong. Lots of organisations though do have special offers and trading terms for members.

Our motivation is quite straightforward. We know very well that some quite basic products are expensive when compared to what a sighted person might pay to get the same benefits - compare a biro with a Perkins! As products for blind people are mostly manufactured in very small numbers they will always be more expensive. So one little thing we can do is to let people pay over a period of time to lessen the pain and mean somebody can have something now rather than having to save up for a year.

So, please think of this as a small but positive step designed to support blind and partially sighted people.
Regards
Alison

because the RNIB, like many other charities, raises money from members of the public on the basis that it is to provide services for visually impaired people, not for visually impaired people who are paid up members. I feel it is a dangerous principle to break.

So if your not a member it's going to cost £17.00 before you even start.
Cheers Robin.

Hi,
From 1 September we will be offering Easy Pay. You will be able to
spread the cost of any single item purchased, that is £150 or more,
over 10 months.

The criteria is fairly straightforward. It's open to RNIB Members. If
you're not a member, you can join for £17, more info at
http://www.rnib.org.uk/getinvolved/membership/pages/become_member.aspx
10
payments by direct debit, first payment 21 days after we've shipped
the goods to
you. No interest or admin fees.

Regards
Alison
