Mel,

The following message appeared on the talking book discussion list this
morning.

Hi to all you intrepid web catalogue users!

Yes, the catalogue is up and live - the links were loaded on Monday.
There are a few glitches which may mean that we take the catalogue down
for a few days again (I know, I'm sorry!), but we've received a good
handful of selection lists already and it's just so nice for people to
able to use it at last!

One or two tips:
For some reason the URL http://rnib/tbookcat/index.asp, even when saved
as a favourite, defaults to a different URL, http.......pages/search.asp
which comes up as not found except when it's accessed via the main RNIB
website. I'd recommend that you save to your favourites list the URL
http://www.rnib.org.uk/talkingbooks and use the link in the Choosing
Your Books section of that page.

When you get to the search form, you can use just a few characters of
the author's name or the book title and you don't have to put anything
in ALL the search boxes. If you know the author's name, for example,
but the first name is initials only, try using just the surname.
Or you could try the surname plus the first initial of the first name;
or the surname plus one word from the title.

Out of interest, none of our catalogue information specifies when a book
was written, but most titles are added to the library in chronological
order. The 'added since' search option refers to when books were added
to the Talking Book library - not their print publication date.

Happy searching, best wishes,

Catherine Hewitt

Hi All,

I had a look at this on Monday first thing and it looked very promising.
However, since then the page has been showing an internal server error and
I haven't been able to get in.

Are other people having the same problem?
