[access-uk] Re: RNIB

Hi

I use the michel Thomas language courses, I needed the
booklets in pdf and the publishers were kind enough to give
me copies in pdf free of charge as long as I agreed not too
distribute them which I obviously did. If they can do it,
why can't the others?

Adrien

Eleanor,

I had this problem when at Uni too. In the end I gently
told the publisher that I would simply buy the book at
normal price and scan it for myself; they usually don't
realise you are entitled to do that. A few, and I mean a
few then relented and sold me a PDF at cover price.
They all needed to go through the University department or
Library though which was often more hassle than it was
worth. I wonder why I chose a social science course; the
number of books was horrific.

Good luck,
Karl

Ian I want to get a PDF copy of a book from a very well
known publisher. It
is a text book and costs £21.99 in Waterstones and when I
said I was a
student I was informed then that it would be £19.99.
Approaching the
publishers for a PDF copy as a blind person, they will sell
to me for one
hundred and eighty-nine pounds and in order that anyone
thinks I have made
typing errors I have spelt the price out rather than using
numbers.
