I have also found that jewellers are unwilling to change batteries in tactile non-talking watches. They often claim not to change batteries in watches belonging to a range they do not sell themselves.

Hello

I have always had talking watches and just over a year ago now, I bought one of these new radio controlled watches from the rnib. It would be perfect but for the fact that it keeps freezing on me. By that I mean it will work fine for a few months and then it will stop talking and the time will stop. On the face of it, it seems as if the batterie has gone, but when I put my ear to the face and listen carefully I can still hear it ticking as if it is telling the time like a normal watch would do. I have spoken to the rnib and they tell me to get another batterie put in to see if that solves the problem as the problem only started a few months ago so there is a strong possibility that the batterie has indeed gone and the watch is probably having a reaction to that. The problem was solved when a jeweler took out the battery tested it, and put it back in when he could find nothing wrong with it. I then left it near the window sill over night and it righted itself and was fine up until the other week when it froze again. I will try to get it sorted out again next week as no jewelers near me will fit batteries into talking watches. Apparently there excuse is that when they used to fit them, they never talked any more so they decided not to do them again.

All the best

Martin

Hello Catherine,

I use the RNIB talking calendar watch with the LCD display and I would say the longest I have had one before it gave up was around 2 years, sometimes
less. I like the watch as it has a timer which I use a lot for cooking,
etc.

I would be interested to hear others' experiences with talking watches.

Best wishes,

Clive Pallett
