well looking at a few web sites, the most expensive V92 USB fax modems sell
for somewhere around £20 and PCI modems can be got for less than £10 so,
taking postage costs into account iyou may as well buy a new one.

yes you can. you leave the handset down until the number has been dialed.
so you use a modem to dial the number. When the phone starts ringing you
can pick the phone up. You can in fact use numbers stored in your address
book and dial them which is handy.
