Hi, if you're going down that road, get them to back the whole thing up and 
reinstall everything from scratch on whatever partitions you want, it should 
improve performance quite a lot, and you shouldn't lose a thing if they 
really back everything up.

Thanks for the warning about the serial number, Dave.  After reading steve's 
message I can
see that buying it is the only reasonable option - and I would probably only 
use it once!
Perhaps I could get a local computer shopt to do the job!
