Hi Doris.

Well, discussions have been known to deviate from their original posted subject on list "smile", but its not an illogical step from USB to Parallel adaptors to the discussion of various printers, principally because these cables are primarily used to connect legacy printer hardware to one's modern Windows PC or Macintosh computer.

All the best, Ibrahim.

I'm a little late coming in on this thread.

I expected a discussion of usb to parallel converters or adapters but
what is being discussed are llaser, wwifi and ink jet printers.

I don't know if this ever was the question that started this thread
but my husband and i use a legacy Epson 24-dot matrix printer with a
usb to parallel printer cable on a laptop that no longer comes with a
parallel printer port. The cable comes with driver software that
emulates a parallel port. This works fine and we hope to get another
20 years out of our matrix printer. these are build like tanks and
superior in the cost per page price for printing.

When I looked for bluetooth printers I appeared to have 2 main choices, those that are multi-purpose and took up so much room on a desk and a lovely Cannon portable one and it along with the Bluetooth dongle cost nearly four hundred pounds!

Hi Carol

Parallel to USB converters are not that great to be honest, they certainly
didn't work when I wanted to use one on a PowerBraille display. I hope you
have more luck with your printer.

Generally speaking, all printers now seem to come with USB, and you can get
some using Bluetooth or which network. It's been a long time since I bought
a printer, (smile).

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Subject: [access-uk] PARALLEL TO USB CONVERTER?

Hi all,

Well, My old desktop has, at least for the moment, given up working and I
need to use my parallel printer. My laptop only has a USB option so, can I
get a converter at a reasonable price? If so, any details would be most
welcome.

In addition, if I need to go for a new printer, as I have WiFi in the house,
should I consider a WiFi or USB connection printer? It would be good to
have details, please, of any models which you really like and are fully
useable for a totally blind person.

Thanks.
