Hi Richard
I guess it depends on the user, some will pick it up quicker than
others. The Pac Mate obviously offers far more applications than the
Braille Lite.
If your friend can get to an exhibition, he could do the rounds and see
what is available. If not, then he could always request a demo on any
of the current note-takers.

Thanks Jackie,
Since my last note I've realised that I didn't say that he currently
uses a Braillelite, and would now prefer a BX 420. How easy is it to
learn the new JAWS commands through a Braille input keyboard?
Thanks,
Richard Godfrey-McKay

Hi Richard
The Pac Mate is now on the 6.2 release, providing more ability to use
grade two Braille input across applications. The fact that your friend
is already a JAWS user means there will be continuity when using the
same commands on Pac Mate.
The Omni 6.2 release also allows the user to open Office 2007 documents.
Your friend is always welcome to contact me to discuss his requirements
further.

Subject: [access-uk] PACMATE BX OR BRAILLENOTE
Hi a friend who currently uses JFW with a Braille display wants to buy
either a PacMate or Braille note. I don't know how to advise him and
would welcome any comments please.
I gather that he's not going to use advance features, but principally
for taking and reading notes in fairly high-powered meetings.
I always liked the idea of the BX because it runs a form of Windows and
presumably the learning curve isn't so harsh for a JAWS user.
Please let me have your thoughts.
Thanks,
Richard Godfrey-McKay
