Hi Will
We spoke about this at Sight Village, and it is something we are looking at. No promises at this stage, but what really helps is customer feedback. We have a very effective system of capturing and responding to customer feedback. Anecdotal evidence just doesn't cut it when you're making a business case where the first questions asked are how much, how many customers etc. So, I would urge people to ring the Helpline.

We expect the Braille Sense 18 to be available in the UK early September. The price will be £2995 ex VAT and comes with a years talking newspaper and talking book subscription, whether you buy from us, or our distributors; Computer Room Services and Force 10.

Thanks
Alison

well why bother developing the tech when no one except those in jobs can afford it

Its a problem with most assistive tech but if we go at it like that nothing will ever be developed. Worth remembering though that it does have an 18 cell Braille display and they aren't cheap and probably never will be.

In early July, GW Micro announced the new and exciting Braille Sense OnHand. We are pleased to announce that the Braille Sense OnHand will be shipping soon. Many of you have seen this portable notetaker at the summer shows and have been dazzled by its compact size, power, and performance.

The Braille Sense OnHand is a small notetaker with an 18-cell Braille display. It has the power of the Braille Sense notetakers, and comes with a GPS receiver, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a compass all built into one small, ergonomic unit. It also includes four GB of built-in memory, an SD card slot, and USB OTG port. An external LCD display is an option.

Although we have no firm date on shipping, the preliminary estimate is for shipping to start in September. So, GW Micro is now taking orders to make sure that you will be among the first to experience all that the Braille Sense OnHand can do for you.

The retail price is $4,995.

The Braille Sense OnHand has powerful software, networking capabilities, and multimedia features that let students, people in the workplace, and anyone accomplish tasks and get the most out of life. Plus, its small size makes it easy to take with you anywhere you go. The Braille Sense OnHand lets you multitask as you run up to seven programs simultaneously.
