If it's the Portset, she should have a CD with all the instructions on it.
You don't need a TV to use it, so you don't need a TV licence. Everything
talks, including the seven day programme guide, which finds all the
programmes for the channel you are listening to. It didn't take me very
long to get used to all the buttons, which are differently shaped and
arranged in a sensible way. It may be that your friend doesn't have a good
enough aerial, so she may need to get a digital aerial fitted on her roof or
in her loft. If she is in rented accommodation, her landlord may be able to
do this for her.

Thanks Wendy, I've posted your reply onto my friend because I know she has a
media centre though I don't know what kind it is, she probably doesn't
realize it has the set-top box incorperated into it. Thanks, CW

I don't think there is a replacement yet at around the same price. Portset
do a media centre which gets Freeview with audio description, and also has a
DAISY player incorporated, but this costs over £800. They also have a set
top box which is over £600. While both these products talk you through all
the features, I think they are far too expensive for most of us. I have
been lucky enough to get the media centre at a bargain price second hand,
but otherwise would not have bought it. It is very good, but the DAISY
player doesn't work nearly as well as the Plextor or Victor machines, so I
don't really know why they bothered to include it.

Hi all, please can anyone tell me what has taken over the NetGem free view
box? My friend is after one, not sky nor cable, one for her TV. Any help
apreciated.

Thanks, Christine W.
