Something like that.  I'm not too hot on the technicalities so I don't know
what format unsaved files are in when they've been recorded - maybe PCM?
Don't know.  The key thing is that once you've recorded whatever it is you
want to record you can save it in a number of formats like .ogg or .mp3 etc.
Once you've specified the format the program performs the necessary
conversions and saves the file for you.

Sunil, excuse my ignorance here as I'm only just getting into this.  Have I 
interpreted correctly what you're saying I wonder?  Programs like Sound 
Forge and Goldwave first record everything in Wav format rather than 
directly into the format of your choice.  However, when you come to save the

recording, you can then save it in MP3 or Ogg Vorbis or whatever?  Is that 
right?
