I won't use direct debit, years back now, Mum had something on direct debit and they took it early, leaving her with bank charges, the company wouldn't take responsibility for it and the bank wouldn't for letting the money go early.

I have my monthly fees taken off my credit card.

I never had such an email, especially as I pay by direct debit!

That is always the safest way and their preference.
