Hi,

Could it be your screen resolution that is causing jaws not to recognize that 
the check box is in fact checked. I had the same problem in skype. Just change 
your screen res to the recommended screen colours for the screen reader your 
using.

  If he's visually impaired and using an older copy of a screen reader, it just 
could be that the check boxes aren't reading correctly.

  Other than this, I can't think of another reason at present ...
