the 6124 is compatible with talks, it is exactly the same as the 6120 classic which vodafone had specially adapted fro themselves, have no no idea why they needed to adapt a perfectly working model, but that's vodafone for you. I must admit, when they first offered it they said it wasn't compatible but someone else told me it was. by that time, I was so blank blank blank with the company I went elsewhere.

Some time a go now I got a phone from voda, I decided to upgrade and so
phoned them up, i was promosed that the phone I was to receive would arrive the following day and would have talks loaded. it soon became obvious that 
the phone didn't talk at all and that it never would as it wasn't a
compatible model, i then spent around three or four hours on the phone
talking to them about a suitable model, I must have spoken to everyone who
was on duty at the call centre that Saturday afternoon, in the end i
accepted an old model as they said it was the only one they had in stock and ended up getting talks put on it myself as it would have meant them sending me the phone and then me sending it back to them to have Talks installed on 
it, it was completely daft, I've never come across such a bunch of people
with absolutely no knowledge, it wasn't all down to management, the
computers were out dated as to which models were compatible etc.

Because these are probably old stock Eleanor and if I were getting one I'd 
ask them to confirm they weren't refurbished ones and rather brand new

Interesting Jackie, though I am not Barbra.  Now I wonder why they don't
offer the latest Talks because they are certainly putting the latest
Talks on phones for blind.  The lady was even able to tell me when I
asked her what version of Talks they were now using, and she said Talks
4.  I felt she was well informed.

Yes I know, I agree.  I've been lucky, but have heard very differing
reports of customer experiences.  I've also heard a rumour that they
intend stopping this service, but who knows?  The chances are that the
model is a year or more old, and no it isn't Talks Premium or the latest 
version of Standard that they offer.  But the point is that they offer
it at all, and if people aren't fussy about the latest bells and
whistles on a mobile, then it's worth a look.  I haven't seen this
handset, so can't honestly comment.

It is indeed a great offer and thanks for passing it on. I just found in 
the past that Vodafone providing TALKS and actually getting someone who
knew of the service were very different things. But you usually get
there if you persevere!

If you are on Voda, call 191, but I don't know what the national
equivalent is unless you look on the web or call 195.

I don't know the ins and outs of how long the offer has been on, or
whether the phone is any good.  I just thought passing it on might be
of
use to someone looking for something reasonable.

Apologies for the cross-posting of this info, but thought anyone in
the hunt for a new phone might want to look at a promotion Vodafone
are offering at present.

According to the info I have been given, you can purchase the Nokia
6124 with Talks Standard for £90, which includes a £10
Pay-As-You-Talk
top-up.
The phone has a 2M camera, with Internet access, MP3 and all the
usual
clobber.
I've never seen this, so honestly don't know how old it is or whether 
it is particularly button friendly.  But if it is a phone you are
looking for without paying over the odds, then it might do the job.
Vodafone send it away to have Talks loaded on it, and you generally
get it back within a week or so.

Hope this is of some use to any of you.
