I have to say, I have had my I phone for around eighteen months now and while it was a very steep learning curve in the beginning, I can safely say that I am getting on very well with it now. Yes, texting is rather slow, but the dictation app from dragon makes things easier for long text messages and emails etc. I also respect those who try with it and find they can't get on with it. As others have said, it's not for everyone and you really do have to get used to thinking in a very different way when using it. I loved my nokia talks phone when I had it, but unfortunately the phone itself was very plasticky and by the end of it's usefulness, it was being held together with celotape as the battery kept falling out and it was just unusable not to mention when the phone crashed I had to keep putting some new celotape on the back after having to pull it off in order to remove the battery and put it in again. A shame because talks works brilliantly with nokia mobile phones and from what I hear, it seems to be evolving and keeping up with the times as far as new smart phones go, but uncertainty as to where talks will go with the new windows7 mobile platform as the new operating system isn't currently accessible with screen readers. Lets hope that changes in the not to distant future.

All the best and be happy with your mobiles weather they be I phones voice over or talks enabled.

Hi Mike

Well I love the little Apple Bluetooth keyboard I purchased, but it isn't
practical when you are out and want to make a call, text somebody urgently,
or do anything else. And I found the phone very bulky in the pocket of my
jeans. Admittedly I bought a leather case for protection so that added to
the bulkiness, but it is considerably larger than a regular handset by
today's standards.

I am so pleased I had the opportunity to really explore it, and find out
whether or not it was for me.

Hi Jackie and listers,

I'm glad you pointed out the bulkiness of Iphone; I've only had a brief try
on my daughter's, and I think I might get rather frustrated with it.
However, I wonder what the future holds for we phone users who require
accessible technology. I'm sure a Bluetooth keyboard would make the phone
much more usable, but that would make the phone rather cumbersome for quick
calls and the like. I might think about a Touch in the future though.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Janet

When my son came to visit earlier this year, he saw the frustration on my
face when I was forwarding texts, trying to answer and hang up the phone,
trying to get it off speaker and back to my ear ... Grrrrrr!! Ian said then
that he thought I would end up throwing it out of the window. I carried my
N86 everywhere when I went out with the iPhone in case I needed to cheat, it
got to me that much. In the end, I just thought it was stupid to dread it
ringing or a text coming through to have to forward to my circle of jokers
etc. So I took the plunge and went back, and I'm less stressed for having
done it I can tell you.

All the apps I purchased work on both the iPod Touch and iPhone, so I
haven't lost anything at all.

I hope you get on with it better than I did and manage to use it as you
would your N86.

Hi Jackie, I don't think you've thrown the towel at all. You've got what
you like best in the end. And you've still got the iPod Touch which can be
used with loads of the apps anyway. I've been using my iPhone for 3 weeks
now and yes it is more laborious to send texts with and I'm still getting my
head around it, but I still have my N86 as a back up.

There are days when I feel like throwing my iPhone at the nearest dustbin,
but I don't have the iPod Touch to use for the apps so I'll stick at it.

If we all liked the same thing what a dreadfully boring world it would be
(smile)

All,

I am happy and relieved to say that I no longer have an iPhone, just my iPod
Touch 64GB and fifth generation Nano. I just could not get on with the
phone side of the device. I found it hard to text, which took me so much
longer than doing so on a regular keypad that I could feel. And I get a lot
of texts, so it became time-consuming, laborious and very frustrating.
There were just things I disliked enormously about the iPhone as a phone,
including its bulkiness. So I asked O2 if they would downgrade me on my
Simplicity contract to where I was before, and port my mobile number to a
regular SIM card. They did this straight away. In fact, the iPhone was off
within 20 minutes to half an hour.

Happily for me, my SIM that they sent out in the post works not only on my
N86, but also on my beloved N91 handset, so I am as happy as Larry to be
back to Talks. Those of you with the iPhone will doubtless feel I've thrown
the towel in and given up. Dead right! I love my iPod Touch, and finding
apps to try out, but I just did not like the iPhone, and as my son's third
gen device came to a sticky end recently, he has become the beneficiary of
my beast.

So, in conclusion, it's not for everyone, including me! (smile).
