Hi Tony and all, go to the start menu property, customise, on the advanced
page there's a tick box to stop windows from giving you that info "Highlight
newly installed programs ".

Yes Peter
I suspect that it could be shut off, but have never been too worried by it
as it has always disappeared within a few attempts to open he start menu
in my case.

same as pop up descriptions?

Hi Peter and Vanja
It is a start menu item that comes up for a short time after you install
a
new programme. However, I have never seen it come up for more than five
or
six times after the programme has been installed, so am not at all sure
why
you are having it appearing after three days Vanja.
It comes up as a tool tip right beside the start button when you open
the
Start menu, and is not part of a programme menu or anything like that.
To
the best of my knowledge it only appears in Windows XP.
Regards
Tony

Hi Vanja,
I set my start menu to XP and hit the start button. And you're right.
I did hear Jaws say. New Programs installed. I arrowed up and down
and, again, you're right, its not a menu item. However, I could not
repeat the process. Happened only once. Within control panel
settings. Do you have show pop-up description for folder and desktop
items check box unchecked? Perhaps Jaws is reading a popup window?
Peter
