I think you might be recalling the Sonic Torch. It didn't do very well cos it was junk, but that said, I'm grateful for invention, cos sometimes we reach an end product worth having, it just hasn't happened in the area of mobility, in my opinion. I for one, don't want to walk down the street looking like a robot! A Dalek, now that's a different matter <smile> -

I wonder who it is anyway, that decides we need all this extra kit? I had a dog for 30 years, and a long cane for the last 6, and have been fully mobile, and safe, maybe others have different experiences, but I really don't want more gadgetry unless it really makes a significant difference. Now, where've I put me car keys <grin> -

Andy

I'm sureI saw sonic glasses about 35 years ago. In what ways are these an improvement on a product which must have disappeared.

I guess they're meant to help guard against you walking in to say a litter
bin hanging off a lamp post, or a low hanging awning, especially for tall
people. Personally, I never, either when using a guide dog, which I did for
many years, or now with a long cane, which I prefer, encounter such
problems. I wonder how these glasses respond when encountering other
pedestrians?

I'm always rather cynical when it comes to yet another so-called mobility
aid, cos so far, in my experience, they have all been expensive bits of
junk.

Can I ask though how would these benefit a guide dog owner since the dog walks around everything? The only use I can see would be headheight I am such a quick walker with my GD as well wondering if worth it

Dear Customer

RNIB are pleased to announce the launch of our new Ultrasonic Obstacle
Detecting Glasses - iGlasses (TM), developed in association with AmbuTech.

iGlasses are designed to be used as a secondary mobility device alongside
traditional aids such as a cane or guide dog. Worn like spectacles they
provide vibration feedback when you near a potential hazard at head and
chest height. When you approach obstacles such as overgrown branches,
hanging signs or street furniture, the frequency of the vibration will
increase - giving you more confidence to explore your surroundings. The
frames and arms are black with either clear or brown tinted lenses.

Priced at £79.99 excluding VAT, further details can be found at RNIB's
online shop:

y&productID=ME1401

Kind regards
