I don[t rely on tps or mps actually since as you have already discovered cold callers know how to skirt around the system.

truecall might be a viable option since you can build a custom list of approved telephone numbers. if you have callers who use a witheld number truecall will also allow you to set a greeting asking the caller to identify themselves(the speaker is then activated so that you can hear what is said and thus have an opportunity to decide whether you want to proceeed with the call or not). the only drawback being that , in order for truecall to work at its best you do need to subscribe to caller display.

Hello list,

I am not sure if this is off-topic, but I am sure the moderator will let me
know if it is.

I am registered with both the Telephone Preference Service and the Mobile
Preference Service which keeps the majority of nuisance calls from hitting
me. However I do still get a number of international calls which do get
through. That is, as I understand it, because TPS and MPS only cover calls
emanating from within the UK.

Both yesterday and today I have had a call from a withheld and an
international number that claims to be working on behalf of TPS. They claim
to have been notified by my phone supplier that I have been receiving
international calls which turn out to be scams. After a few moments of
discussion with them and, of course, with no information being given by me
they have both abruptly hung up. In my view that proves they were both
scams.

So don't get caught by this new one.

I am aware that I can get things like call blockers and also  units such as
true-call but I do not currently wish to do so. There are a few people who
may call the house who we do want to get through.

Regards, John
