Flash memory is a solid state drive anyway isn't it? The Asus range come with flash memory, not a solid state hard drive as we know it. That's why the storage capacity is so small. The upside is that in theory they should boot quicker. It's just that some are smaller than others. The Asus 901 comes with either Win XP Home or Linux. I have the Win XP version, which has a C:\ drive for storing all the Windows files, plus a D:\ drive where I install all my programmes and personal files. Pretty much the same setup as my desktop. The 901 has a 12Gb hard drive, with an additional 20Gb online storage available, which is great for backing up your data. It can also read SD cards of all sizes. For instance, I have a couple of 8Gb sd cards and a 16Gb USB stick that I carry around for various purposes. What I am looking for is something with more than 4 hours battery life, and that has wireless and Bluetooth capabilities. It doesn't have to have a hard drive, but would need to be able to take a 16 SDHC mem card. Incidentally, for netbooks that don't come with hard drives, where does installed software reside? I've never had a machine without an HD! - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: Steve Nutt To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, January 02, 2009 11:20 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Netbooks Hi Andy, You haven't been reading my messages <Smile> I don't like the Asus range, not enough storage. I prefer the MSI Wind, even over the Samsung Netbook. it has a nicer keyboard, and the right shift is in the right place, an annoyance to me with the Samsung. The other thing about the Samsung is that you have to press the FN key with the shift key if you want a colon, otherwise you seem to get a dash. 'orrible machine. Sorry Jackie, I don't like it <Smile>.
