Hi Darren.

I got a Compaq Mini 311 netbook free with my mobile broadband upgrade, and its probably one of the best machines I've ever seen. The battery integrates with the case so well that its hardly noticeable with no unsightly bulges at the back and the tiled keyboard is exquisite to use with hardly a gap between each key, so not easily damaged unlike some netbooks I could mention. Also, if that weren't enough, this machine has its own dedicated graphics processor in the form of the Nvidia Ion which means that graphics processing is handled separately and does not therefore put too much strain on the Intel Atom processor which is the bog standard 1.6 GHZ. As for other specs, they're pretty par with a 160GB hard drive, 1GB of memory upgradable to 3GB with a DDR3 module, Bluetooth 2.1 and wireless G networking, 3 USB ports, VGA and unusually for a netbook you also have HDMI as well. A single audio jack serves as both headphone and microphone socket but the internal microphone is serviceable enough or you could simply buy a USB headset.

All the best and I hope this gives you something to chew over. Price is around the £300 mark, so its not as if you'll be paying over the odds either.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Subject: [access-uk] Netbook and Keyboard Size

Hi List.

I've decided to treat myself to one of these things sometime over the next couple of weeks, but was wondering if anyone has found a particularly nice model with a reasonably well laid out keyboard.

Basically I'm looking for a netbook that doesn't have a horribly squeezed up querty keyboard.

Thanks.

Darran
