I'm just curious tristam. What do you think of NVDA how it stands now?
Thought I'd ask as you work for Sight and Sound and I was wondering if any
of you tried NVDA and compared it to your offerings? As you know I require
JAWS for Tandem feature and for applications NVDA can't handle, but I do
like how NVDA works on the web, for example.
Just curious that's all.

It may be that with NVDA that one may have to choose one's applications a
little differently to that you would for the commercial screen reader
offerings. Microsoft Office being what it is would be costly (both in time
and resources) to develop for at current releases therefore it may be
prudent to look at the open source alternatives that work, especially for
private non-business use. The commercial offerings such as JAWS,
WindowEyes, Hal and to a certain extent System Access have had both the
resources and the time to make Microsoft Office work whereas NVDA
development man-hours are a fraction of that for the commercial offerings.
It may also be argued that in a private non-business use those seeking NVDA
may not be able to stretch to the price of a Microsoft Outlook or need its
raft of facilities.
