and in settings somewhere there is an option to get nod not to display the 
splash screen.

Well it's your choice.  Obviously, you looked at another antivirus =
program for a reason.  From my experience, the splash screen stays on =
longer while Nod is waiting to get the latest updates from the server.  =
The fact that you can't use the keyboard is because the machine hasn't =
completely booted up, at this stage.  Nod gets the latest updates as =
soon as it can before the user can introduce a virus via email or floppy =
disk etc.  It's why Nod is good at it's job.
