Hi Damon,

In my experience, it does not take any more battery power.  You can turn it
off though if you want, I think it is in Tools, Settings, Network.

how do you turn this 3g on and off? And indeed, is that how it works? Maybe 
you shouldn't want to turn off your data connection? When I hit Talks button

and soft key 2, it tells me that 3G is connected. Is that good or bad? Does 
it take up more battery power?
