[access-uk] Mp3 to AAC?

Hi all,
Am I right in thinking that the I-pod plays tunes that have an extension of
aac, that is, A.A.C. If so, is it possible to convert mp3 or other music
sound files to a.a.c format using Goldwave? Mp3 to A.A.C?
