Hi Andy, I think their point really was that it is a self-voicing application. That's all really. All the best Steve -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andy Collins Sent: Sunday 3 February 2008 19:21 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: More on KNFB reader for phones Jackie - What I understood from hearing the forum, was that if you were using the reader, and a call/text came in, you could accept it, and then return immediately to the reading, the reader remembers your place. They actually made quite a bit out of the fact that the KNFB reader could be used when TALKS isn't even on a phone, but, one still has to get to the installed software in the first place,so, without TALKS, sighted help would be required to set up a hot key for it! So not sure really what their point was really - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <cairnsplace@xxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2008 6:51 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: More on KNFB reader for phones | Yes that's right Andy from what I understand too. But I bet it won't be | long before other mobiles supporting this type of flash with the Symbian | operating system will be available to at least provide the end user with | some choice. If what the software developers are saying is true, it would | have to be future proof for a wider selection of phones. They are | supposedly chucking a lot of dosh at developing the software, and with what | they are charging for it, they must expect to be doing more with other | phones or else it'll be defunct in no time. | | It's the K-NFB software that I think is extortionate, not the phone or | TALKS. For me, the ability TALKS gives us to do what we can with a mobile | is worth every penny frankly. But while the K-NFB software is designed to | be portably accessed, it is a lot of money, both over there and here. | | I'm really curious to see how the Reader and the phone compare as two | different animals. What would happen, for example, if you were using the | phone to read a document with the K-NFB software, and you got a text, or | someone rang you. Yes it's very interesting from a usability sense. | | Jackie | | | | Email: cairnsplace@xxxxxxx | Skype Name: Cairnsplace | ----- Original Message ----- | From: "Andy Collins" <andy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> | To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> | Sent: Sunday, February 03, 2008 6:23 PM | Subject: [access-uk] Re: More on KNFB reader for phones | | | > Jackie and Terry - | > | > It is certain to work on future models, but they will have to be equipped | > with the xenon flash, which as I understand it, the n95 isn't, so the | > software won't be backwards compatible as it can't be really.
