Thanks for the help. We followed the step-by-step guide, and there was little
or no mention of this slot, hence my question. So will we be able to use the
internet, even without this cable? If so, then fine, as I could get the
required cable from PCWorld or something. Thanks again, greatly appreciated.

Hi,
On the microfilter there are two connections:
- The standard BT UK telephone socket which you can plug a regular phone
into.
- An RJ11 modem socket which the ADSL router/modem plugs into.
Some routers/modems come with two types of cable - the RJ11 to UK phone
socket, and an RJ11 to RJ11. When you are using splitters on the same
line as voice communication, you should use the RJ11 to RJ11.
It is very important to ensure that you don't plug telephone extensions
that are going to be used for voice into the RJ11 sockets, and also that
you don't plug in telephone extensions that terminate at your router
into the standard BT phone socket.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Subject: [access-uk] Microfilter question
Hi all, we've just set up our network so we're ready for broadband this
coming Thursday. However, I have a question. In the package were 3
microfilters, which are all set up. However, when I saw one of the
filters, it had both a phone cable slot and a modem cable slot. We
fitted the phone cables into the appropriate slot on both the filters
and the phone lines. However, what is the modem cable slot for? For now
we're not using it, however is this required for a successful broadband
experience? I was at least able to see my wireless connection, and has
connected to the network successfully, so the network itself is working
properly, but we're not sure about this extra slot on our microfilters.
Thanks in advance for answering my question, and I look forward to
hearing from you.
