The version from the Command Prompt CANNOT be used to
indicate the actual version in use. It is merely an
indication of the BASIC core product - in other words
Windows XP.
Both Windows XP Professional and XP Home here say they are
Version 5.1.2600.
I'm not sure why you are not getting the Properties dialog
read for you when selected via My Computer, but if you want
to give me a call, we can take another look. The General
Tab of Properties should tell you:
1) System: Operating system, version and any Service Pack
Level.
2) Registered to: Your name, Company (if any) and Product
key.
3) Manufactured and supported by: This will indicate if it
is a Microsoft supplied version of Windows or an OEM
version. It may also tell you the processor used, Speed,
and amount of memory (RAM)
