Thanks, Yusuf. Oddly, this doesn't really help me but actually deepens the
mystery . My dad has this +44 number and, when I ring him using my mobile,
he seems to get charged for the call too.

Barry, No its nothing to do with roming, its simply done to make things
easier if you should happen to go abroad. If you did and all the numbers in
your contacts list don't have the +44 before them they will be unusuble. If
you have+44 you can use the contacts list as if you were in the UK.
