sticking with 2003.

Not specific to using it with JAWS, but I have some likes and dislikes
with the Office 2010 beta. Maybe the dislikes have been sorted in the
actual release.
Likes:
1. Keyboard use. Moving between groups on a ribbon tab has been changed
from Shift+RightArrow to Ctrl+Rightarrow, and this means you don't get
caught on any editable controls - brilliant! This is a really handy way
for keyboarders to move quickly through the ribbon controls.
2. The Find dialogue is now located in the Navigation pane and
simplified; it requires a few more keystrokes to get to the Options or
"old" dialogue. 2. I like the way it informs you how many hits there are
- very handy.
3. Nice to be able to customise the ribbon. Haven't played with it a
great deal, but the idea is great.
4. Outlook Calendar. I like the facility to group calendars in the
Navigation Pane, and move calendars between groups. Even better would be
the ability to right click a calendar and choose a "move to group"
option which would give a list of the groups (a bit like moving a
message to another folder) because screen reader users may have to use
the Move Up option a number of times to get a calendar into another
group, and there is little feedback to say when a calendar moves from
one group to another.
Dislikes:
1. Outlook. Doing an Advanced Find with Ctrl+Shift+F - if I choose one
of the buttons that opens another dialogue (e.g. From, Browse), when I
close this second dialogue my keyboard focus doesn't appear to return to
the Advanced Find dialogue - although I can press Escape to close it!
2. Outlook. Can no longer use Alt + S to save and close an appointment
or contact. I have to press Alt, H, AV, unless there's a trick I'm
missing?
3. Print/print preview. There are two annoyances with this. a) If I use
a shortcut such as Ctrl+P to open the print dialogue, or Ctrl+F2 to get
a print preview, I can then not use the keyboard to navigate the
resulting screen. I have to use the Backstage menu - this I what they
have renamed the File menu, although they have replaced the symbol for
it with the word "File" - to get to the same screen (Alt, F, P) if I
want to use the keyboard to navigate it. b) I used to like using the
print preview screen to work out how documents like spreadsheets would
look when printed. In previous versions of Excel I could press Ctrl+F2
to open print preview mode, and then use PageDown and PageUp to move
between the pages. I could explore each page with a virtual cursor if I
wished. Apart from the fact that I have to use Alt, F, P and then B and
F to move the print preview from page to page, the layout of the screen
with the Backstage menu at the left, the print dialogue in the middle
and the print preview at the right make it almost impossible to work out
where my document content begins and ends. A very useful feature is no
longer available.
4. Keyboard use, In Outlook's View pane, the controls in the
Arrangement group have underlined letters. A control label with an
underlined letter usually means you can use the Alt key with the letter
to activate the control, but I can't get these to work in this way. I
have to use Alt, W, AB to get to the stage where I can use these
underlined letters simply as keytips.
5. Keyboard use. Can't save attachments via the Backstage menu unless
the item is open; the menu item is greyed out regardless.
6. Focus. If I open a Word/Excel document from Windows Explorer, it
doesn't take focus.
7. Outlook - if I move to a day in the Calendar and press Ctrl + N, I
get an appointment with the attributes of an event - midnight to
midnight - but without the "all day event" checkbox checked. In Outlook
2007 I got a half hour appointment starting at the time set as my
default in Calendar Options, which was much more like what I usually
need.
8. The colours for focus/selection on the File menu do not make it clear
where focus is. Dark blue indicates the presence of a submenu and light
blue shows focus, but when focus moves to a submenu, the light blue is
lost. Would it be possible to swap the colours around, so focus is
easier to establish? Also, the Add-Ins item shows as white text on a
light background when focus moves to it.
9. Keyboard use. If I hover the mouse over a lower ribbon command, a
tooltip pops up that often includes a keyboard shortcut. I can't find a
way to get the same information with the keyboard. Also, I can't find a
way to get similar information about items on the BackStage menu, with
either the keyboard (my preferred method) or the mouse.
10. Disappointing that keytips haven't been made more intuitive - e.g.
in Word, to change the document to Draft view, which is what Normal view
is now called, is still Alt, W, E. In almost all cases, the number of
keystrokes to achieve something have either stayed the same or
increased.
11. Panes that open at the right and left, often don't take focus. E.g.
Shift + F7 highlights the current word, opens the Research pane at the
right and presents Thesaurus results for the word - but focus stays on
the highlighted word. I have to press F6 once or twice, depending on
whether the Navigation pane is on screen, to get to it.
12. To change View options, you have to visit the View tab (Draft, Print
layout etc), Insert tab (Header/Footer, page numbers) or Reference tab
(table of contents, footnotes/endnotes). It would be useful if these
were all on the same tab.

Oh Carol, where to start?
Well, Outlook 2010 is considerably more stable than 2007 ever was. I
can start browsing folders without the program hanging on me even whilst
mail is still being downloaded. The conversations view is far more
customisable.
There is better handling and management of read receipts, with tracking
information added to the original message. Deleted items in IMAP
folders are moved to the Trash folder of the mailbox, instead of
remaining in the original folder. There is better support for
simultaneous calendars excluding Exchange. The format of the program
has been improved, so things are in more logical places, for example,
the 'from' drop down box when composing messages to specify the sending
account. On that note, if you start a new message from within a given
mail account's folder, the mail will default to sending from that
account for that message, rather than reverting to the default mailbox.
This is very handy if, like me, you have 22 separate mail accounts all
within the same program.
And that's just Outlook. Need I go on?
Absolutely loving it. So much more productive than I ever was with
2007.
