Amro I will give the predictive text a go but I thought I needed to press the hash key to turn it on, you say something about the pound key. What is that? How about if I want to put in numbers? How many times do I press the keys?

"Amro this is very good and I thank you for taking the time and trouble to explain it to me."

You're welcome, Eleanor. Only glad to be of some help!

Re predictive text, yes I use it all the time and find it awesome! It takes a couple of messages to get used to it but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a breeze.

The thing to remember is that you press the number only once, regardless whether the letter you want is the first, second or third letter on that number. Again an example :) to write "going", you would press 4,6,4,6 and 4. To write "tomorrow!" you press 8, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 6, 9, 1 and then the Star key four times to get the exclamation mark.

If you key in the needed numbers but you get another word than the one you have in mind then you just keep pressing the star key until you get to the word you want. e.g. for "gone" you press 4, 6, 6, 3 and then the Star key twice. You'll se that after you press the Star key once you get the word "home".

To type in space you press the zero.

Finally, to switch predictive text on and off on the fly you press the £ key twice in a quick succession.

Hope you and others on here find this explanation helpful.

Cheers,
Amro

Amro this is very good and I thank you for taking the time and trouble to explain it to me. No now that I know what it is all about I am happy for it to tell me. I think there is a limit though because I was sending a very long message tonight and it stopped and said something like 'end'. I have never had that happen before because I would not normally be sending such a long text message.

I am interested to know if any of you use predictive text. I have only been texting since June and I think predictive text might slow me up more because I would have to be looking for the correct word if it did not come up straight away. However I think I must be quite quick at texting character by character because sometimes I am not allowing enough time and hitting the key can cancel out the previous one which does slow me a bit to avoid that happening. Any tips on that one please?

Eleanor

Eleanor, as Alexander said, the number you hear is the number of characters left before your message is split in more than one part. Example, when Talks says 160 (1), that means that you have 160 characters left, and the message will be sent as one message. If a message contains more than 160 characters Talks will say *number* (2) and it will be sent as two messages, if it contains more than 320 characters it is sent as three messages and so on. But please note that the person receiving the message will always receive it as one message regardless of the number of characters that a message has. Another example, if you send a message contains 170 characters, your network provider will charge you for two messages, but in your inbox that message will appear as one message and it will be received as one message too. As well, You can get the number of characters that a message has by pressing the Talks key with long soft key two. I don't think that you can stop Talks from giving you that information.

Hope that's clear.

Hold on a minute Chris, \i started a new message and wrote this is and then pressed the hash key as \i was going to write the letter A because I wanted to explain it more clearly. When \i hit hash it said one hundred and sixty and then it was as though there was a pause and it said one and then it said upper case. \now I had only used 8 including characcters and spaces.

Oh right, that's just telling you how many letters you've entered so far,
and how many parts your message will be sent.

I think what she means is that when you press the hash key to change to
upper case, you hear a series of numbers.

What are you asking? Does your phone produce numbers instead of capital letters? If that's the case, you need to press the hash (#) key *before* the letter(s), then press hash (#) again before the next letter, which
will be a lowercase letter. Hope this helps.

wHY DOES MY MOBILE GIVE NUMBERS BEFORE IT SAYS cAPITAL WHEN \I PRESS
THE
HASH KEY TO PUT A CAPITAL LETTER\/? Sorry \i have been writing in caps
lock
here. The numbers announced differ depending on the letter \i think or maybe it is that they differ because of the position of the cursor on a
line.
