Graham I can manage to figure out for myself, that getting sighted help can 
be useful, and if it were an option today, I'd go for it. As it happened, 
Peter did offer a solution that might have worked, it's just unfortunate 
that it isn't the answer in this particular case! -

| pointless us trying to suggest solutions until we have more of an idea of
| what is on the screen.  It could be anything from the computer booting up 
in
| safe mode to a component failure.  If you can't get a neighbour to do it,
| take it down the pub and get someone to read it to you.
