Hi,NMope, I am saying Hal should support the buttons and menus. The only way you can read the book is through Kindle's own voice. This is by design. All the best Steve -- Computer Room Services 77 Exeter Close Stevenage Hertfordshire SG1 4PW Tel: 01438-742286 Mob: 07956334938 Fax: 01438-759589 Email: steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Web: http://www.comproom.co.uk -----Original Message-----From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Eleanor BurkeSent: 24 June 2012 09:58 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: Kindle for PC Are you saying Hal can do the reading of the book? It is what it is. But you can change the shortcut to launch Hal. Where do I install the Kindle software from? Presumably the Amazon is just the plug-in??? The one advantage with the software version over the hardware Kindle is that you don't have to check whether text to speech is enabled on thebook. The software version with accessibility plugin is classed as accesstechnology so all books will read regardless of the text to speech status given on the website. Thanks so much for your help - I now have it working - a female voice and a bit toneless but hey it's free and I will only really want to use it if I can't get something on iBook's and can on Kindle or if it is a lot cheaper. Thanks. This is the version you need if you are to use it successfully. If you did, then your screen reader should handle the navigation of the application, while the text to speech built into the software will takeover when youâ?Tre reading a book. Once youâ?Tve pressed enter or controlo to open a book, you can press control I for instructions. However, control r will start reading from the top of the page, and if you return to a book, pressing space will resume reading. If you only installed the normal Kindle for PC, youâ?Tll need to install the version with the accessibility plugin. Go to http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kin_pcacc_surl&docId=1000632481 Iâ?Tm not sure I understand your Wi-Fi question, but you donâ?Tt need toget the software to connect specifically to your Wi-Fi network â?" it willjust use your existing connection. You should probably check the â?~deliver toâ?T option when you order a book from Amazon, to make sure itâ?Ts set to Kindle for PC. Hope that helps. Seeing someone request help for this reminded me that, although I sold my Kindle because I can access everything on iBook's, there would be nothing lost by downloading Kindle for PC which I have done but how do I get speech? Also I am connected to wi-fi â?" do I have to connect the Kindle for PC separately?
