Sorry for replying to my own message here, but I have two extra things to tell you. The problem occurs even if she's not attending to her laptop but is being left on, and also pressing control-fn alone can help, but it takes a few minutes to unlock itself. Also, in case this helps (although I don't think it will as I'm not experiencing this after I did a system recovery on my Toshiba laptop) she's using Window-Eyes 6.0 demo. Thanks again.
