I have been asked to post the following message from Sight and Sound's Chief
Executive Officer, Glenn Tookey, in response to this thread.
"Sight and Sound Technology have successfully operated the KNFB Reader
software on the Nokia N95 8Gb phone. We are in the final stages of testing
and recognise that there are some differences with KNFB on the
N95 that will reduce the performance of the phone, especially when used by a
blind user as opposed to a user with low level of vision (such as slightly
lower recognition performance due to the single LED flash on the N95 8Gb).
Sight and Sound Technology also recognise that Kurzweil Technologies Inc
have not approved the use of KNFB Reader software on the N95 8Gb. However,
S&S have a desire to formalise the use of KNFB software on the N95 8Gb as we
believe that it will open the software to many blind and VI users who
already use this Nokia phone. We are in the final stages of product trial
with a view to formally supporting the N95 for users who purchase the KNFB
Reader software through Sight and Sound Technology. We expect to reach a
formal company position on this subject in the next 2 weeks. Glenn Tookey
