It's interesting to know you can take images even when it's dark.
This morning I was in a room with floor to ceiling windows, and it all
worked fine.

Moving to a smaller room with windows along one wall, I couldn't get
a single image capture. Same time of day, reasonably good light in the room
apparently (although the windows have lightweight wooden blinds). Very
puzzling, but at least in the other room I'm getting consistently good
images now.

Léonie.

Hi Peter,

You don't need to put lights on, it depends on your flash settings. If you
set flash to always on, if you are constantly in the dark, then it should
work. I am not sure yet what Leonie's problem is with light, but I am sure
we'll get to the bottom of it. I have scanned in total darkness before now.

All the best

Steve

That doesn't sound very good to me as someone who never puts lights on
unless there is someone here who can see.

Thanks Steve. I did catch my jumper a couple of times, but think I've got
everything out of the way of the lens now! It definitely gets better with
practice though.

The problem I've been having seems to be related to the ambient light. There
isn't any precise rhyme or reason to it, but the reader does seem very
sensitive to the amount of available light. The trick seems to be to sit at
the kitchen table with all the lights on. So far at least, that seems to be
doing the trick.

Hi Leonie,

Took me a couple of weeks to really get the hang of it, but I can read
envelopes easily now, so don't get too disheartened.

I find the focus problems you are having odd though. You are not by any
chance holding your fingers over the camera lens or anything like that, are
you? May seem a stupid question, but I have been there.

Next time you are on Skype, give me a ring if you like, and we'll take a
look at it. KNFB Reader is excellent, but does take a little learning.

All the best

Steve

I bought the KNFB Reader this week, but I'm struggling to get to grips with
it. When I try to get a field report, it usually tells me that it couldn't
focus properly and fails to take an alignment shot.

I've got the document on a flat surface, which is black in colour.
The surface of the document is flat and the light is good. No matter what
height I move from the surface, I seem to get the same result.

I can work with the training document with reasonable success, although I
often get an unexplained message about there not being enough identifiers. I
can't find anything relating to identifiers in the user manual, so I'm not
sure what that might mean.

I've been trying to sort through our post, so wonder whether envelopes are
particularly tricky? I've been practicing for over a day now, and it's
getting a bit disheartening.

If anyone has any tips not included in the user manual, I'd welcome your
help. Thanks.

Léonie.
