Though at home my video drivers have never been updated, here at work I
understand that's not an issue. That said I'm not about to move over to
WindowEyes because I think the people who like it are a bit peculiar,
have hair on the palms of their hands and may also be radio hams.
If JAWS 6.2 was generally as bad as has been suggested, I'm sure there would be many, many more postings.
As Brian and Sunil have both said, in many cases where problems are experienced, it comes down to some other system factor or factors. These days, it is essential to keep your system up to date, not just with Microsoft Critical and Recommended Updates, but also video and sound drivers. Microsoft don't generally supply more than basic generic drivers, leaving it to the manufacturers of the video and sound cards to provide their own. It's all too easy to forget to update these.
All screen readers have to rely of sound and video, and since this kind of software relies heavily on both media, any weaknesses can cause major discomfort.
Unfortunately too, JAWS has relocated their script files in order to allow users who share one PC to maintain different user profiles. Again, it is easy to forget to merge previous setting with the new, and indeed it can be a tricky process in itself.
