thanks Amro, it was buried a little deeper than I'd expected. A very useful function for people who write long strategy documents or students, I'd suggest. For those of you who don't have JAWS 11, here's that snippet from the help file to explain the Word Index functions that are available in the latest version of the screenreader: Word Index - jaws 11 help: Word Index (INSERT+CTRL+W) is the ideal tool for those who do a lot of reading for study and research purposes. Word Index generates a list of words that appear in a document or on a Web page. The words are sorted so that the highest occurrence appears first, followed by an alphabetized list of words that only appear once. You can scan the list for a specific word or concept, and then jump to that occurrence of the word. If the word appears multiple times, use the Navigational Quick Key W or the Word Index Summary button to select and skip to the next occurrence of the word. The Summary button opens the virtual viewer with a list of links. Each link is a sentence that contains the selected word. Press ENTER to activate the link. This is a useful timesaver since you can get a feel for the context of the word, and then move to the appropriate section of the document and continue reading. Use Word Index when reading Web pages or Microsoft Word, Outlook, Outlook Express, Notepad, WordPad, or Adobe Acrobat files. ________________________________ From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Amro Bilal Sent: 26 May 2010 10:03 To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: JAWS 11: That new clever word count trick Damon, go to Jaws help>What's new in Jaws11 and jump to the heading (Word Index). While you on that page of the help files you might like to check too the heading (Show Word Comments, Footnotes, Endnotes, or Revisions in Virtual Viewer). You might find this feature of some help too when editing a document. I understand that in JAWS 11 there is a function which counts the number of words on a page. It will tell you, for instance, how many uses of the word 'project' or 'blind' or 'banana' you've used in your writing ... helpful if you can't see a page all at once like sighties. Can someone tell me the keystroke and how it works, please? I don't even know what it's called so can't google or RTFM it. Thanks!
