Rockbox is dead easy to install. I'd like to see the RNIB article, it could

Debbie,

Just to add, that I've had an iPod for about two years now, and throughout
that time have used Anapod Explorer to copy and organise music. Anapod
integrates the contents of your iPod into Windows Explorer/My Computer, and
so is very easy to use. It's simply a matter of dragging and dropping tracks
using the copy and paste functions.

Until the JAWS scripts were written, the iTunes software was pretty well
inaccessivle. When I first got my iPod I had to install iTunes in order to
format the unit as a Windows (as opposed to a Mac) iPod. I don't know
whether that's still the case.

Of course, Anapod won't help you navigate through your iPod once you've
disconnected it from your computer. I understand that it is possible to get
some iPods to talk (though not the Shuffle) using the Rockbox software,
which replaces the machine's firmware. As I understand it (and things may
have changed in the past few months) installing this stuff is not for the
faint-hearted. RNIB's Access-IT magazine ran a feature on this a few months
ago, and I remember thinking that it sounded a bit too much like hard work.

Cheers now, Mark
