Generally I find the GPS to be quite good. I used to have a surf star 3 chipset receiver or whatever it's called and I'm finding equally as good coverage with the iphone. The other nice thing is that it has both the 3G network and the built in compass to use to give you a better fix of your location. The directions it gives are relative to the way you are facing at the time which is nice. I remember with wayfinder or Trekker that sometimes it wasn't clear which way you needed to travel until you got to an intersection.

Hi Peter,

No it doesen't have GPS, but it does have Bluetooth.  And that's another
issue I have with the iPhone.  If you want to improve your GPS experience,
an external GPS receiver is a better bet. But you can't connect any to it, 
because it's Bluetooth implementation is so bad.

I don't think the touch has the GPS does it? I'm assuming it has the
bluetooth though?

Certainly Steve, on the Ipod touch safari ap, you can also navigate via
heading or links using the rotation tool.  I assume the I phone would do

Oh forgot to say that I find the facebook and ebay apps much easier to
use
than the websites themselves as well. The big thing I like is that once
you
know the layout of the screens it becomes very natural to just put your
finger where you know the button orwhatever you want is. Using Talks I
couldn't do that, even if I knew where it was you still have to navigate
to
it.

Firstly, it's just the way they are implimented. Most apps have similar
layouts and things that you get used to so finding your way around isn't 
hard.

So far the useful apps I'm using include;
* navigan GPS
* Stocks and shares
* reqall planner/management program which you use your voice to control
* Sky + app to read the sky tv guide and control my sky +
* Sky news and ITV news apps to watch the latest news
* TV catch up to watch all the major channels in the UK including BBC,
ITV, C4, C5 and lots more
* Mail Plus to access my live mail account
* relaxation software to help me sleep

And I could go on. There are well over a hudnred thousand apps
officially
available for the iphone/ipod  and it never gets boring as I can always
have a look to see whats available. Many of the apps are free or cost
less



than £2.

There are lots of podcasts out there talking about it so have a listen
to
some of those. Just google iphone voice over

I'd disagree and say it's a very good interface for the blind. The
only
downfall is the typing but now that apps such as dragon dictate are
around that problem is solved. I can work much quicker using the
iphone/ipod gestures then I ever could with Talks, having to try and
move around a screen and navigate menus.

You seem to make some assumptions here.

I am totally blind and I use the iPod touch.  It is not an efficient
interface for the blind, but totally usable, and pretty well
accessible.
But Apple have designed voiceover so that it can be used by totals.

It's a good music player, but I wouldn't want an iPhone for example,
as



for
productivity it really sucks big time in my view.

Touch and I'd be fascinated at just how much of the functionality of

device you are able to use whilst remaining with the stock firmware.

don't mind my prying, but you must have some residual sight to handle

touch interface?  Would you say this is worth considering for others
needing
to look for a new media player (for example, if my iPod Video ever
kicks the
bucket) or would it be too difficult to handle?

Now for your questions.  For video conversion I use AVS Video
Converter. It
is a paid for solution but offers a wide range of presets you can
choose
from, including for iPods.  It's also accessible with my Supernova
screen
reader, or easy to see if you are using magnification.  No doubt
someone
will offer a free solution as I'm sure I've heard of one myself, but
the
name escapes me right now.

OK Folks!

Santa Claus brought me a great new little gadget for xmas!  Yes, the
new 32
GB Ipod Touch.  I've listened to a couple of podcasts re this and
have
got
to grips pretty well with it's function and how to get around it.  I
have a
couple of questions however. I know there is a more specialised list 
which
T and T run but wondered if there were many on the list?  Also, does
anyone
have the sub details?

Now for my questions:

1  What is the easiest way to get .avi files onto the ipod?  I
believe
they
need to be converted first, how do people find the accessibility of
these
conversion tools?  Also, where can I get the most accessible one
from?

When I go into the music section of the front screen, is there a way
to
easily switch between artis, album and song views? How easy is it to 
set up
play lists?

Anyone got any suggestions for really cool aps which are free?  Also
though,
any paid ones which, again, are accessible?

I am pretty knocked out at how easy the touch screen is to
manipulate.
As
an additional question, how accessible are apple mac computers in
general?
presumably, there is more facilities in the full blown voice over ap? 
I
hear it is akin to window eyes?  So, does that mean you can get the
list of
links etc in safari?

Are there any more tutorials etc for the touch?  And my final
question,



How
similar is it to the I-phone?
