[access-uk] Re: I-phone too long winded

Hi.

The Nokia E5 should still be available, that phone has Wi-Fi and is under £100, well I got it for £99.99 from Three. It'll take talks and is a qwerty keypad phone, not unlike a blackberry.

All the best, Ibrahim.

It is almost impossible to get those very high end Nokia button phones like the N86 new that have wi-fi etc. What is left are supplies of C5s from RNIB, Expansys etc. Mobile phone providerswill do what most people want which are either really cheap feature phones that don't take TALKS et al or high end touchscreen based smart phones like the iPhone or Android.

Hi Eleanor

Can't speak at all for S and S as the last I heard, Glenn couldn't get them
for love nor money.

As for C5, you may well be right about RNIB selling them, but let's be
honest and say it won't be forever! And no, it doesn't have WiFi.

Well just a minute Jackie, did you mention in previous e-mail perhaps that
C5 does not have wi-fi. In addition C5 is available SIM Free and unlocked
from RNIB and I thought but could of course be wrong that it is possible to
get N86 from Sight & Sound but generally in combination with KNFB Reader.

Hi Jeff

If you mean between the N86 and C5, I am using the latter at the
moment as it is so nice and neat in my pocket. But you would need to
be quick as these are becoming quite scarce, and the N86 appears to
have disappeared now. This is the problem with Nokia altogether and
keypad-style handsets.

Jackie Cairns

Hi Barry

I'm with you. It's why I dumped my iPhone and gave it to my son. I
have an iPod Touch, and I love this for at home to download apps and
listen to music. That suits me. I use a C5 or my N86 for phone
calls, texting and all the rest. They can keep the iPhone, it's too
much hassle.

What you needed to do is go into App Switcher, where you press the
home button twice. In there, it lists the apps which are open, and
you would have seen Safari there if you'd known. To close it, double
tap, but on the second tap, hold your finger down until VO says
"Edit" or something, then you lift your finger and double tap each
app that is open to close it.
Once
App Switcher tells you there are no apps currently open, you know you
are safe.

But what a carry on, forget it! (lol).

Sorry, I can't give you a reason for sticking with it unless your
contract provider will let you switch to something a bit more savvy.
Trouble is that Talks and proper keypads are becoming so scarce.

Good luck.

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Subject: [access-uk] I-phone too long winded

Hi all

I've recently discovered, through a fairly large phone bill, that I
need to go through some sequence that is akin to a Freemasans
handshake to close an app such as Safari. In essence, I've searched
the net, pressed the home button to close it, so I thought, and got
on with my day. However, as I-phone users hopefully know, it did not
close but carried on in the background until I shut off the mobile at
night.

I'm sorely tempted to go back to my Nokia N86, on which I just
pressed one button to close a so-called app. Texting is so much
easier and I've got K-nfb reader too.

The I-phone makes a nice I-pod accessory and has some gimmicky app's
that I would use once in a blue moon, but to do anything is too long
winded to use as a simple mobile.

I'm on a two year contract, but I'm willing to lose money on the deal
just to go back to simple.

So, guys, I'm looking for a good argument why I should keep my
I-Phone 4 and not go back to my N86.

Cheers

Barry
