I think it sounds like a bizarre and out-of-touch way of designing products for the blind market. A market which wants more flexibility.

The whole point of buying an accessible radio is to gain independence. I might as well purchase a 50 quid inaccessible internet radio, which doesn't need a subscription, and have my girlfriend find new stations if that's how it works. Surely it must be better than that? It's totally counter-intuitive relying on a 'help the blind' model. Subscriptions, third party agencies, goodness me.

Hi Peter

But that's just pure madness. I mean, why sell an Internet radio and only
allow a handful of stations to be at your disposal, then ask why you'd want
to add others yourself? Using the analogy of the mobile phone, imagine
wanting to add lots of contacts, or even music tracks. You ask your dealer to add them for you, and they are going to say why would you want to? It's
hysterical!

J

Maybe you can do it but they don't wish you to do so.

Well Steve, whatever the spelling, the version TNAUK sold definitely
didn't
let you add your own stations yourself. You most certainly had to phone
them and get it done for you, one reason of a few why I didn't like it.

Hi Jackie,

It is the Sonata, not the Sanata, as in a musical piece.

All the best

Steve

Hi guys

No, Peter is talking about something different. The Dutch gadget is made
by
Solutions Radio, which was originally sold here by TNAUK, and is now being
sold by Wireless For The Blind. Least that's my understanding. I had a
trial of one of these radios, and I didn't think much of it at that time.
I
thought it was far too expensive, and the user had limited functionality,
whereby stations needed to be added by TNAUK on your behalf. I don't know
what the situation is now though, I've kind of lost track of it. I
believe
it is called the Sanata these days, but still costs an arm and a leg.

The radio that interested me more was the one George demonstrated some
years
ago, but which never came to fruition. I never saw it, but I wanted one
if
it had come off.

Kind Regards,

J

It was quite a big gizmo and cost around 350 pounds if I recall correctly,
made by a Dutch company. Looked like it did what you'd want it to do but
quite pricey. I couldn't justify it. Nor the space on my night stand.

I seem to recall seeing at Sight Village a few years ago, an internet
radio

where everything spoke. you could select the country and once there,
select

a radio station. I don't recall the name of this, but it worked fine, even
on a dialup connection which it was connected to. I think from memory it
was George's company that were demonstrating it. Wonder what happend to
that project.
