Hi Andy, This comes back to my premise that it is best to buy a PC with a completely normal copy of Windows supplied. That is to say not a recovery disk situation. This OEM or recovery disk garbage is O.K. up to a point, but while it may reduce the price a shade or three, it's basically an adulterated copy of Windows that forces you back to an "out of the shop" system. That covers their backsides with Trading Standards and the Sales of Goods Act. I am seeing more and more press about the demand for systems which do NOT have an operating system installed at all, and users use a genuine 100% copy of Windows XP of their own choosing. My computer is a Packard Bell from PC World. However, I did not get a Recovery Disk with the computer, I've got to press F11 on boot-up to format back to factory settings. Are you saying Martin that during this process, my wife, who is normally undertaking the task, is asked which type of restore I'd fancy? It would be great to do a restore and leave all the junk obehind. Best wishes.
