Absolutely but I cannot make them at present as I am rushing to catch a train. I got the run-around from one of the staff there in relation to information regarding mobile phones and Talks. that would be a year ago now. She sent me off to a Vodafone shop in Hammersmith, was very specific telling me where exactly it was and true enough there it was but when I went in they knew nothing about blind people and phones with Talks and said if anyone did know then that person was away that day. They took my details and said they would get the N96 phone in for me to have a look at, at least, but I never heard from that shop again dispite giving my contact details. Then there was all that about the RNIB selling a 2nd-hand mobile phone for some blind guy who lived on a boat or something. He wanted almost full price for the phone even though it had been lying in the RNIB resource centre for nearly 9 months. They dropped it like a hot potatoe when I started to make complaining noises. Wonder if he ever got it sold! I find they are not very good in the resource centre and like you say how are people supposed to know that they do demonstrations on a Thursday. What I wonder are they doing the rest of the time. They certainly are not talking to people on the telephone either as when ever I have telephoned all I get is an answerphone and it is rare for them to return the call.

Ibrahim,

After my recent experiences with the RNIB resource centre, I'm afraid I'm not bothering to journey there again in a hurry!

Just one thing I'll say here: One of the High Tech team said to me, "We all have our specialisms" when making an excuse for not knowing the product ... He clearly didn't know how much more than how to turn on the Plextalk Pocket. We'd also made a special journey to go (takes about two hours or so from here) and were told they usually do demos on Thursdays, but how are people meant to know that???

Our whole experience, even looking round, a volunteer who knew nothing (bless him) and a watch problem that nobody was able to understand or give me a proper answer on even now ... leads me to think it's best not bothering to go there.

I'd rather purchase from Peterborough and have to return, but am not sure if you get away with returning goods just because they're not quite what you expected. Anyone any comments on that one???

Hi Carol.

Well, there's always the resource centre of the RNIB down
in London *smile*, they'll probably have one, though if
its total accessibility your after, I'd strongly suggest
looking at the VR Stream or Milestone devices.
All the best, Ibrahim.

Thanks, Sandra, for this insight. So how do you know
what file(s) you're moving or deleting then? Hmmm!

Wish I could get my hands on one of these to be sure I
want one.

COMPARISON OF OLYMPUS DS40 AND DS50

Hi Carol,
Coming in on the Olympus thread, the only difference
between the two products is the storage capacity, as has
been said. The menus do speak and so do the folder
names but files names are not spoken as to do this they
would need synthetic speech and the voice prompts are
human speech. This leads me to think that the DS40 or
50 may not be what you want. Just my thoughts.
Cheers,
Sandra.
