I don't remember having problems but they may have changed things since I signed up.

Hi Carol. I have tried to subscribe to that list myself and got a
reply telling me that the list is an invite only list.

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the IWorld! <Smiles>

If you have the latest IOS update (version 5 anyway) you can speak to Siri
by holding down the Home button until you hear a beep, then ask something
like, "How old are you"? If you have Siri he'll give you a bit of a funny answer to that one. You should be able to ask the time, "What time is it?"
and this will work whether or not you have Siri.

To get that South African voice, you'll need to go to Settings, General,
accessability, double tap VoiceOver, then language rotorwork through the
list till you find it then double click. You will now (hopefully) find it on the rotor settings and you can select it whenever you want and change it
back to your English voice if you choose.

  Hi Carol,

Please forgive my questions that most probably have already been answered,
I'm a newbee to the Ipod touch.... for a few days now and loving it!
Firstly, how can I change the voice to the Aussie or South African accent?
Also, how do I activate Siri on it?

  thanks,

  Scott

You'll be able to upgrade IOS via "The Cloud" so won't need your
computer for that task. You also can backup that way, though not music as
yet, which is really annoying.

You don't absolutely have to use the male voice (though I like him
personally) but could opt for the lesser quality American or Australian
voices if you wished, and of course can alter these on the fly if you
choose.

I must admit, whilst I struggle with Siri in accuracy when dictating, I
do like to be able to choose a song.

I also like my incoming male and messages read out as in the
Notification Centre.

To be honest, I think it's worth upgrading, or you could find some apps
don't work any more.
