Pretty much yep. The only other online-realted thing I've done is
downloaded ringtones. Doesn't require going to a site, you normally
send a text request and get a service message sent back with a link to
open. When opened the browser kicks in and downloads the tone.

If I understand it right, the cost is incurred by the amount of
downloaded data [about 0.75P per KB] so actual browsing isn't charge
for, but from what you said, TALKS doesn't allow us to browse yet, so
accessing e-mails seems like the only thing available, is that right?

You need to download the emails to the phone to read them, but if you
want to save time you can just download the message headers then if you
decide you want to read the message you can download that separately
after reading what the subjectline is. Depending on how many messages
you get though it might be quicker to download all messages rather than
just the headers then downloading individual messages separately
afterwards.

GPRS isn't GPS though, you get online via GPRS, GPS is the global
positioning system with which you can navigate streets, like you do with
Trekker for instance.

Sunil - because as you said, TALKS doesn't work with GPRS, is
downloading the e-mails to the phone the only way to access them? Also,
if I do set it up to download e-mails, I take it that as with OE, all
messages will get downloaded, adding to the cost of the call. What I'd
really like to do, is just read the important messages, leaving the rest
on the server to read later in OE.

If you want to download mails from you're existing account you'll have
to configure the email program on the phone, telling it your username,
password, and the server names for inbound and outbound mails and
whether it's a pop3 server. You might have to ring your ISP for that
info.

Orange, or will I be able to do it using the phone, if so how?

Just think of GPRS as a gateway to the internet. You won't be able to
use the web browser on the phone to surf the net because the talking
software doesn't work with it. You can read your email which is done by
downloading them from the server like you do with a program like Outlook
Express. You can configure the settings so that you can leave copies of
the emails on the server if you want to read them on your PC later - in
the same way that you do now.

Hi all -

I've no real understanding of how I'll be able to use GPRS with my new
phone, or quite how the charges apply.

I think I understand that GPRS will allow me to connect to the web, and
view pages for free, Right so far? But if I download of upload anything
there will be a charge, is that right?

Does this mean, if I want to read e-mails I can do so on-line, like I
can from my PC? or do these some how have to be downloaded to the phone?

Answers to these questions would be grate, as would any other useful
info about GPRS and how to use it.

Thanks

Andy
