So this is one thing I would caution against without sight. As for the Windows key, if you have access to Windows, before the reinstall, you can get the key using Belarc Advisor. Professional System Administrators do it all the time. However, it first does require some technical expertise, and of course you need a pair of eyes to get certain details such as the CD Key. To put it in very simple terms, essentially you need to create an "Answer File". Provided this is assembled 100% correctly - the emphasis being on 100% - the answer file will then provide the answers to the questions a Windows installation asks you during the process. If you install Windows from scratch, as in a complete full copy, you have to know what it's asking you, and unless you've got a photographic memory and can recall every step without a sighted person being within reach of the screen, I don't think you can do it. If you have recovery disks that you tend to get with a machine in a High Street store, it generally wants to know things like language, and your name etc. There aren't so many steps to go through with a recovery as there are with a full installation of the actual Operating System from scratch. Personally, because I'm cautious, I wouldn't do it without sighted assistance, just in case I was asked an unexpected question and pressed the wrong option to accept. I just wouldn't do it. If it has been done with no sighted assistance by a totally blind person from scratch, then well done.
