[access-uk] Google Mail

As Google appear at last to have provided us with a way round the
verification code hurdle, I have been thinking about trying out Google Mail.
If any list member actually uses Gmail I would be grateful for clarification
on two points.
Firstly, is it difficult to set up for POP3 access with a normal client - I
don´t
usually find webmail interfaces particularly convenient.
Secondly, I already have a Google account and password which I use for
example to read Newsgroups etc.. Would this be suffficient to enable me
to get a Gmail account - it talks about needing an invitation?
