[access-uk] Re: Good news regarding broadband and a question

Normal? On a broadband connection? Don't remember this happening at my university, or if I did it was very minimal, unless absolutely everyone was downloading a big file, such as a movie.

Yes, it does make sense, Chris, and is fairly normal
behaviour. The file download is simply taking priority.

George.

Hi, that doesn't make sense. My father downloaded Sky Player
this morning,
and the rest of *our* internet, as we share the same
connection, slowed
down, yet the download remained fairly constant, does this
make sense? so
it's got nothing to do with our computers I feel; I think
it's because of
our line not being fully split. This will be resolved, I
hope, when I buy an
extra filter for our phone socket in the kitchen. Thanks for
trying to help
George, greatly appreciated.

If you are downloading a file, and browsing the internet
at
the same time, then of course performance will suffer.
There is only so much data that can flow down that pipe at
any one time.

Also, bear in mind that at such high speeds of transfer,
your PC is working like mad writing data to the disk as
well
as doing other things.

George.

No no no. We currently have three filters instead of 4
since
we have 4 phone lines. If I download a file, the rest of
the
internet is slow. This is regardless of how we connect,
wireless or ethernet. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what you mean. Let me try and figure out
what
you are saying.

Are you saying that before you put all the filters in that
your spead suffered?

Regards.

Thank you very much for the help, greatly appreciated. Can
I
ask, is this
why the sppeed is reduced when I download a file, such as
Skype, off the
internet? Because now I've done downloading the speed's
gone
back to how it
was before I started downloading. Thanks again, and sorry
for all the
questions.

As long as you have filters in all the extentions that you
have in the
house, you should be fine.

Hi all, we're finally on Sky broadband. However, when my
dad
tries to ring
out we hear a crackling kind of noise. Do we need to buy
another DSL filter?
Also, as I'm connected via wireless there's a slight delay
with audio
streams. Is this because Sky's still making final
adjustments to our setup?
I must say it's a very good connection and the wireless
hasn't dropped once
yet. Thanks in advance for answering my question.
