Hi Barbara.

Unfortunately, I don't know who the Moderator of the Re-cycle list is. I had thought it was Graham and had written to him, seeking his advice and support. Perhaps he will get in touch with me if I write a general enquiry to the list.

No chance of taking a private case for the sake of 225. I trust lawyers even less than dodgy list members, though I actually do have all my correspondence, and on one of these, the seller advises that he will include a legal copy of XP Home with the computer for the price we later agreed upon.

I have since earlier mail, written to him, threatening to take this to the authorities, if he does not at least hounour his agreement to include a legal copy of xp home. So Barbara I need to wait and see what comes out of this.

Fingers crossed.

Very best wishes.
Andy.

I am sure the list moderator will take a very dim view of this as he will not want people ripping off others on the list. A note to us all I believe. However, Andy, if you have copies of Emails from selling saying what he was selling you and you did not receive the goods you purchased, then even though it was a private sale, I believe you can still seek legal redress. Probably a costly business unfortunately.

Hi all.

Thanks everyone for all your advice.

I've not yet contacted the seller as there is another on-going issue which has not yet been resolved. The computer I purchased from him for £150, required an engineer to take it apart and reload all the drivers and OS. The computer arrived at my address in a cardboard box with no packaging. When I opened the box, the right side panel was off and I could not find any screws. The computer continuously crashed during boot-up. The engineer said that everything inside was filthy and most of the connections were slack. The hard drive was hanging off and the computer required to be cleaned, taken apart, tested and software reinstalled. He charged me £ 70. So I paid £225 for a home made xp home computer which was a few years old. I felt that although I had been conned, there was no way, that I'd get my money back from a re-cycle it list member. I was for this. reason prepared to bite the bullet and take it. However, this new thing about counterfeit operating system has just sickened me. I got Pauline to look at the CD and the package and she says that both are blank. Neither is a Microsoft product, so unfortunately, the chances are that I was also sold an illegal copy of XP home. Microsoft advise that this problem can be resolved for £99, which would bring the cost of my second hand xp home computer, which incidentally, is home built, up to £324. Am I going crazy or what?

I have written to Graham, rather than the seller, to give him a chance to offer to pay for the OS. If I contact the seller directly, , I'll just end up loosing my temper.

Very best wishes.

Andy
