Hi Norman

Well much better compared to the model I used to play around with. But then
Kevin says his isn't any better since the upgrade, so maybe it depends where
you live and performance?

Kind Regards,

Hi Jackie,

Do you know how it compares with the old trekker?

Norman.

Hi Kevin

That is really interesting. The unit my mate from Guide Dogs used to lend
me took ages to find a signal, often not at all. But this unit is far
superior, and I haven't encountered the "street with no name" scenario so
far at all. Funny how these things vary.

Kind Regards,

Thanks Jackie. With regards to the Breeze upgrade, we have found it very
disappointing so far as it still takes an age to find a satellite to lock on
to, despite using on a very sunny clear day, and it still announces street
with no name where it always used to.

In fact, we have had to check the software version to ensure the units were
actually upgraded such was the lack of signs of any improvements whatsoever.

On the evidence of what we've seen with two separate upgraded units, I
wouldn't recommend it as being value for money at £150 a time...

Regards.

Kevin

I thought some of you might find my observations on a couple of GPS products
interesting or useful.

I was asked to attend an event this week to talk about using technology to
assist with mobility. I have been loaned an Apple Watch and new Trekker
Breeze+ to facilitate this. So, on Tuesday, we travelled by car to
Newcastle in County Down which is roughly 80 miles away from where we live.
I put the postcode of the hotel where we were staying overnight into Apple
Maps on my iPhone, and set it for driving. I turned on the Breeze+, but
didn't put in a postcode as I wanted to see what feedback it would give me
in the car on free mode.

A female voice on the Maps app gave instructions. When we approached
roundabouts and turns, the watch tapped me on my wrist to indicate the
actions required, a couple for left and more for right. Meanwhile, Breeze+
told me streets and major roads we were passing, indicating when we needed
to negotiate roundabouts and major junctions etc. Our friend driving had
his SatNav on but muted so he could hear what my toys were saying. He found
both devices really interesting for different reasons. He liked the way
Breeze+ announced things we were passing, but also the way the watch
Breeze+ kept
tapping me as we approached something that required an action.

On the whole, it isn't my bag, and I wouldn't pay £300 for a watch that
requires you to be tied to your phone in order to use it most of the time.
Trekker Breeze+ was more interesting as it provided a lot of feedback on my
surroundings. The new version is way better than the previous take as I got
a signal immediately, and never heard the famous phrase "street with no
name."

I also took my BEM Bluetooth wireless wristband and paired it with my phone
during the talk so that people could get some idea of its use. I think the
Breeze+ came out on top though.

An interesting couple of days.
